Hello to all! We have successfully located a space in the Monroeville area and are moving forward to have our first rehearsal on 10/10/10, from 1-6 PM. Details will be forwarded to all prospective members sometime in early September. We have had interest from students at IUP, PItt and SRU, Norwin, West Allegheny, Gateway and Moon, just to name a few. I am hoping to march at least 6 snares, 3 quints, 5 bass drums and 6-8 cymbals and as many front ensemble as we can! I hope that all of you who are of age (under 22) will consider coming to audition for the line. Please note that you cannot participate in our program if you are already in an established scholastic indoor program, but please think of us when you graduate! Audition information will be posted on this group as well as sent to the list of prospective members we are currently acquiring. I would like to make our first staff introduction..... I am pleased to announce the addition of Tiras Allen as a battery technician and clinician for the ensemble. Tiras is a former Steel City member who marched in the Bluecoats and aged out in the tenor line for the Santa Clara Vanguard. Upon graduating from SCV he accepted a teaching position with SCV. He also returned to teach on staff with the Bluecoats, Pittsburgh Project Independent World Percussion and Matrix Independent World Percussion group based in Akron, OH where he currently resides. Tiras and I taught Steel City together for a while and I can attest that he is “the deal” when it comes to getting the best out of a drumline. I am excited that he has decided to join the staff and looking forward to all that he has to offer! Lastly, if you are on this fan page because you are a fan of the activity, and of the pageantry arts in Pittsburgh, please consider sending us a donation once we have the means to accept them. You can contact me at the same address as above should you wish to contribute. It will certainly take a lot of resources to get this group to the floor this winter. Here is to a great TRIP in 2011! Dave Campbell Staff Update ! I am hiring staff, and pleased to report that Tiras Allen is officially on board. Those who know the history of SCA know that Tiras was quite an asset to the corps. He went on the march and age out with SCV after a year with the Bluecoats. He also taught the Project indoor and Matrix Independent World group from Akron. Alan Fear will oversee the front ensemble and is another great “find”. Alan is finishing up his Music Education degree from CMU, and holds a degree in Music Therapy from Duquesne. He marched for me in the Vagabonds, and Pioneer and currently teaches at: Moon, Blackhawk, Trinity, Mt. Lebanon and Kiski. Jessie Wilson will head up the bass drums and currently in the director of the North Allegheny High School indoor groups which just had a 5th place finish at the WGI Indy regional last year. He was a member of Project Percussion and Matrix indoor as a bass drummer and section leader. Jessie is also involved with the Pitt Drumline. Evan Brown will be serving as our “technical coordinator” and will work with us to find the best electronic gear to add to our program. Evan also works with Kiski, Mars, Blackhawk and several other marching bands as their electronics “guru”. He is also the percussion department head at Volkweins, and works with the SRU drumline. All in all a very, very good staff to get us started. The added bonus is that these guys (and myself) know over 400 kids in the area who play drums. I have limited participation of any student who is already involved in their high school drumline, but these guys can open up many, many doors for us that will increase our chances of success. Thanks! Dave Campbell |
